Hubert L. Johnson Jr., affectionately known as Lanny, passed away on September 5, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on June 5, 1936, to Rosie and Tillie Johnson.
Lanny’s life was characterized by loyalty, dedication and a spirit of service. After graduating from Gainesville High School and the University of Florida, he joined the Marine Corps.
Lanny’s distinguished career in agriculture spanned agronomy, cattle, and citrus. He served as Chairman of the Florida Fertilizer and Agriculture Association, receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.
He also led as President of the Kiwanis Club, Bartow FL chapter, and was a dedicated supporter of his faith and church. An enthusiastic Gator Alumni and football fan, Lanny was also an avid tennis player, cyclist and hunter.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Faye Johnson, their children: Bo Johnson (Dana) Portland OR, Lisa Meyer (Rick) Tampa, and Carole McKenzie (Gary) Winter Haven, and his grandchildren: Lanny Rogers (Lane), Austin Meyer, Mak Johnson, Ryder Johnson, Sam Johnson, and Maci May, and his brother, John Johnson. He is predeceased by his parents and grandson, Phillip May.
Lanny’s legacy of service, leadership, and zest for life will be fondly remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Ocala, FL at Christ the King Anglican Church on October 26, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
