A 2-mile stretch along State Road 200 that closed Monday morning will remain closed every day and part of each afternoon this week for roadwork.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, the outside lane of SR 200, from Southwest 27th Avenue to Pine Avenue, will be closed each day for concrete and drainage work.

The lane closure went into effect on Monday morning at 6 a.m. and will continue through 2 p.m. each day through Friday, September 20.

The roadwork is part of FDOT project 439234-1, which calls for over $16.6 million in operational and safety improvements on SR 200, from east of Interstate 75 to U.S. Hwy 301 in Ocala.

In addition to resurfacing the roadway, the project calls for replacing segments of the existing center two-way left turn lane with raised medians, and the installation of new sidewalk and pedestrian features at intersections.

Other improvements will include traffic signal work, lighting upgrades, drainage enhancements, new signs, striping, pavement markings, and landscaping, according to FDOT.

The roadwork began over the Summer and is expected to be complete next Spring.
