A fast-casual restaurant chain known for its frozen custards and steakburgers was forced to temporarily close its Ocala location last week after a health inspector found 12 roaches on a wall in the kitchen.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Burgers was forced to temporarily close its location at 3558 SW College Road in Ocala on Monday, September 16.

According to a health inspection report filed by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, the restaurant was cited for two violations, including one considered “high-priority.”

During the inspection, the report notes that the inspector “observed twelve live roaches” on a wall behind a triple sink area in the kitchen.

Additionally, a dead roach was observed underneath the front counter. That roach was disposed of by the manager, according to the report.

On Tuesday, September 17, the restaurant was permitted to reopen after it was reinspected and no further violations remained.
