A 54-year-old Ocala man has been arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter after his pickup truck was involved in a crash that left an elderly woman dead and three others injured on Friday evening.

The fatal accident occurred at around 7:40 p.m. on Friday, September 27, near the intersection on U.S. Highway 441 and SE 92nd Loop in Marion County, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP stated that the pickup truck was traveling northbound on Highway 441, near the intersection of SE 92nd Loop, when it approached a “slower moving” SUV.

A trooper noted in the report that the pickup truck proceeded to rear-end the SUV. As a result of the collision, one of the SUV’s passengers, a 72-year-old woman from Clermont, sustained fatal injuries.

The SUV’s remaining passengers – a 60-year-old Ocala woman and 72-year-old Clermont woman – were both listed in serious condition following the crash. The driver of the vehicle, a 53-year-old Ocala man, sustained minor injuries.

The driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck was arrested on a DUI manslaughter charge, along with “several other criminal charges,” and he was booked into Marion County Jail, according to the report. His name was not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.

As of 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, the pickup truck driver’s booking information, including his name and mugshot, was not available on the jail’s website.
