Mrs. Nancy G. Coleman was born on February 27, 1927, to the late Audrey Green and the late James W. Dixon in Gainesville, FL.
She graduated from Lincoln High School at the early age of 16 and entered Florida A&M College (now Florida A&M University). She graduated from Florida A&M in 1948 and immediately went to work as a health and PE teacher at Archer High School, also coaching girls volleyball and basketball.
Nancy met and later married Herbert S. Coleman on June 7, 1953, and moved to Ocala. They were married for 57 years. Nancy taught for over 30 years in Marion County at Fessenden High School and Highlands Elementary (now Robert Ward Highlands Elementary). Nancy was a stalwart in the Ocala community through her service, including untiring membership at Zion United Methodist Church for over 71 years, lifetime membership of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (Eta Tau Omega chapter, charter member), encourager of women through the Camelliattes Club of Gainesville, Inc. as a founding member, Continental Society and Utopians clubs of Ocala, election worker captain for over 20 years in the same precinct, volunteer with the American Cancer Society, and an active contributor on the Poinciana Heights Homeowners and Renters Task Force. At the age of 97, in her home of 62 years, the Lord called Nancy to her eternal rest on September 26, 2024.
Nancy is survived by her children, Herbert Sylvester Coleman, II, of Dallas, TX, and Audrietta Coleman Izlar (Benjamin Al Izlar, Sr.), of Ocala, FL; grandsons, Benjamin Al Izlar, Jr., Chicago, IL, and James Coleman Izlar, Philadelphia, PA., Brother-in-law Bert Coleman (Shirley), Washington, DC.
A Service of Death and Resurrection will be held on Friday, October 18, at noon at Ocala West United Methodist Church.
A Wake will be held on Thursday, October 17, at 7pm at Zion United Methodist Church.
