Two Badcock Home Furniture locations in Marion County that were closed as part of the chain’s parent company’s (Conn’s) bankruptcy filing have been taken over by new owners who will keep furniture sales alive at the locations under different brands.

The Badcock locations at 10737 U.S. Hwy 441 in Belleview and 2211 SW 19th Avenue Road in Ocala have been taken over by Royal’s Furniture and Home Furniture & More, respectively.

While the location in Belleview has closed and Royal’s Furniture is currently working on taking the space over, Home Furniture & More is still selling inventory out of the Ocala location.

The Royal’s Furniture location in Marion County will be the company’s fifth in the state of Florida, with all four others located over 150 miles south of the new spot in Belleview.

Home Furniture & More recently announced through social media that the company has a lot of old Badcock products left to sell before it can clear the space and reopen with new financing options and new furniture.

Over the summer, Ocala-News.com reported that the Conn’s HomePlus in Ocala and Badcock locations across Marion County would close as part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing by Conn’s, Inc. in the Southern District of Texas in July.

According to that filing, Conn’s planned to terminate approximately 174 store leases by the end of October after completing going-out-of-business sales.

The location in Dunnellon was one of Badcock’s that was closed. Ocala-News.com could not determine before the publication of this story whether the Badcock Home Furniture store in Dunnellon will remain closed or if it will be taken over by new owners.

Badcock was founded in Florida in 1904. Before the closures began, there were approximately 340 Badcock locations scattered throughout the southeastern United States, with the highest concentration in the state of Florida.

In 2023, the company was purchased by Conn’s, who heralded the transaction as “one of the most significant events in the company’s over 120-year history,” estimating the combined entity would generate annual revenue of “approximately $1.85 billion across 240+ corporate-owned stores and 310+ dealer locations.”
