A Walmart employee was arrested by Ocala police after she was allegedly captured on video stealing hundreds of dollars from the store.

On Monday, November 18, an Ocala Police Department officer responded to the Walmart located at 4980 E Silver Springs Boulevard. Upon arrival, a loss prevention manager informed the officer that an employee, identified as Shannon Hall, was suspected of stealing money from the store.

According to the arrest report, the manager further advised that video surveillance footage showed Hall “taking money that belongs in the self-checkout kiosk” and “placing it in her tall boots.”

The officer noted in the report that on multiple dates – October 28, November 4, November 7, November 11, and November 14 – Hall was observed on the store’s surveillance footage “removing cash from a canvas money bag.” She then allegedly placed the cash into her “tall boot.”

The officer learned that the cash registers operated by Hall had “been short” a total of $896.28, and the missing funds were “unaccounted for,” according to the report.

The officer made contact with Hall. After being read her Miranda rights, Hall allegedly admitted to taking “approximately $20 to $75” from the register on “four different occasions,” claiming that she “needed money to get by.”

Additionally, Hall told the officer that she was the only person who had access to sign into the self-checkout register under her name.

Hall was placed under arrest and transported to Marion County Jail on November 18. Later that night, she was released after posting a $2,500 bond. She is being charged with grand theft (more than $750 but less than $5,000)

On Thursday, December 26, Hall is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m., according to jail records.
