To the Editor:

The poet Joyce Kilmer: Only God can make a tree.

My heart is saddened by the devastation of the beauty around Ocala, areas that had been graced by trees, decorated with Spanish mosses, and adorned with God’s creatures. What better way to celebrate life?

Yet, Ocala has chosen death.

I originally came from California, which once had clear skies, when Big Bear mountain was visible. Then, after a few years, there came months when you couldn’t see it. The birds had vanished and only black birds and dead trees dotted the landscape as you drove up the mountain, after smog choked the life out.

Florida will have to require Floridians to get smog devices on their cars, I really think they should be doing it now.

I live on SW 27th Avenue and the toxic overload from the traffic has coated my plants with thick residue. The odors, at times, makes it impossible to enjoy the outdoors. The noise pollution from vehicles that blast their radios causes radical vibrations across my house.

Trees are a beautiful energy and medicine for our soul. Please stop supporting the death of our beautiful friends and save the trees.
