Two drivers were killed in Marion County on Wednesday night after one of their vehicles crossed into oncoming traffic and caused a fatal, head-on collision.
The accident took place near the intersection of County Road 315 and NE 222nd Street in Fort McCoy at around 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 55-year-old man from Interlachen was driving a van northbound on CR 315.
At the same time, a 38-year-old woman from Fort McCoy was driving a sport utility vehicle southbound on the roadway.
For unknown reasons, the van crossed the center line and traveled into the southbound lane. As a result, the van entered the direct path of the SUV and both vehicles crashed head-on.
Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene by responding paramedics.
The report notes that the male driver was not wearing a seatbelt, while the female driver was.
