When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound, and time shall be no more, and the morning breaks, eternal, bright and fair; When the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore, and the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.

Catherine Dixon was born on December 25, 1933, in Sparr, Florida to Richard Steele and Katie Mae Ambrose-Steele. She was educated in the public schools of Marion County, graduating from Reddick Collier High School with the class of 1953. Shortly after graduation she was accepted into nursing school in Miami and lived briefly with her aunt Magaline as she began her next chapter in life.

Nursing school became too much for Catherine, so she decided to work in a nursing home and private home health as a domestic worker. Catherine met and married Russell Dixon and they were blessed with 3 children, Alfonso, Bobby and Elizabeth. Russell passed away in 1966.

The passing of Russell changed Catherine’s life again and she returned to Sparr with her children in 1969. For 90 years, Catherine toiled on this earthly plane, seeking to serve and honor God’s holy name, and though her body was weakening and frail, her spirit remained strong, in faith and love unafraid. On November 28, 2024, God called Catherine, and she went home to be with the Lord.

She was preceded in death by both here parents, Richard and Katie Mae Steele; husband, Russell Dixon; sons, Alfonso and Bobby Dixon; siblings, Lillie Mae Morris, Jerry Steele, Herbert Steele and Maryann Taylor. Those left to cherish her memory: her daughter, Elizabeth Dixon of Anthony; sister, Ella Mae Morris (Andrew), nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
