A family of seven in Silver Springs Shores has been displaced after an electrical fire ignited inside their home on Thursday evening.
According to Marion County Fire Rescue, several units responded to a residence located in the 8900 block of SE 88th Lane in Ocala at around 6:50 p.m. on Thursday, December 12. A 911 caller had reported a fire in the attic.
Within 10 minutes, the first MCFR unit arrived at the home and observed flames in the attic above the bathroom.
MCFR stated that firefighters quickly used hose lines to combat the flames, and additional units soon arrived on scene to assist with extinguishing the fire. Firefighters also entered the home to ensure that no occupants were inside.
Shortly after 7:10 p.m., the fire was called under control.
“The cause of the fire has been determined to electrical in nature,” stated MCFR on social media. “No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters on the scene.”
A family of seven was displaced due to damage caused by the fire. They were able to retrieve many of their belongings from their home, according to MCFR.
The American Red Cross and 1800 Board Up are assisting the family.
