A 24-year-old Ocala man was involved in a fatal crash along U.S. Hwy 19 that claimed the life of a pedestrian on Thursday evening.
The accident took place at around 6:20 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, near the intersection of U.S. 19 and North Champion Point in Crystal River, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP stated that the Ocala man was traveling southbound in a Chevrolet Silverado on U.S. 19.
As the pickup truck neared the North Champion Point intersection, a pedestrian – identified in the report as a 50-year-old man from Arkansas – was walking in the outside travel lane of U.S. 19 for “(an) unknown reason.”
Moments later, the pickup truck “overtook and struck the pedestrian.” The Arkansas man sustained fatal injuries from the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The pickup truck’s driver and sole occupant was not injured in the crash.
No further details were released by FHP.
