Although Costco is planning to open six locations across the country in March, and more details have been released on a new location being built near the southern half of Marion County, there are no indications that the grocery warehouse chain has plans to build a location within county limits in the near future.

Last month, Villages-News.com reported that the new Costco will be built at Buffalo Ridge Plaza.

The location in The Villages will be 162,000 square feet in size and will offer gasoline, liquor, and approximately 700 parking spots, according to Villages-News.com, which first reported that Costco was coming to The Villages last April.

No opening date has been announced for the new location in The Villages.

According to Costco’s website, in March, the company plans to open six new locations in California (2), Texas (2), Michigan, and Massachusetts.

The new Costco coming to The Villages will be situated just north of County Road 466, around 30 minutes from the southern half of Ocala and around 35 to 40 minutes from downtown.

Additionally, the new warehouse in The Villages will be just a few minutes away from Summerfield and less than 20 minutes from Belleview. That will make it the closest location to Marion County outside of the warehouse in Clermont.

In total, there are currently over 600 Costco locations across the United States, with over 30 in the state of Florida. Outside of Clermont, the nearest locations to Marion County are in Altamonte Springs, Daytona Beach, and Orlando.
