A 39-year-old man was killed on Thursday evening after his vehicle veered off Interstate 75, struck a roadway sign, and collided with a tree.

The fatal accident took place near mile marker 399 on I-75 north in Alachua County on Thursday, January 9, at around 5:27 p.m.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver, who was from High Springs, was traveling north on I-75 when he exited the right side of the roadway for “unknown reasons.”

The vehicle traveled through the grass shoulder and collided with an information sign before crashing into a tree.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

Family of the driver, who has not been identified, say he was a husband and father of two children.

No additional details have been provided by authorities regarding the accident.
