A woman is facing multiple felony charges after she allegedly fought a customer at a local gas station, bit a police officer, and assaulted a medical professional while heavily intoxicated.

On Wednesday, May 27, at approximately 8:25 p.m., Ocala Police Department officers responded to the RaceTrac located at 3211 W Silver Springs Boulevard in reference to a physical altercation involving customers, according to the arrest report.

Upon arrival, officers reportedly found 43-year-old Melissa Anne Borgais bleeding from her nose and eyebrow while actively drinking an unpurchased can of alcohol near the front counter. Store employees told officers that Borgais had consumed $7.99 worth of alcoholic beverages without paying.

According to the report, an employee advised that Borgais had been punched in the face by a female customer prior to the arrival of law enforcement. The physical altercation reportedly began after Borgais ran towards the customer and threatened to fight her.

After the customer reportedly pushed and then punched Borgais, she allegedly responded by striking the customer back.

When officers attempted to speak with Borgais, she allegedly refused to provide identification or stop drinking. As officers attempted to place her in a patrol car, Borgais refused to enter the back seat, bracing her legs against the door frame, according to the report.

An officer noted in the report that Borgais repeatedly kicked an officer in the stomach before lunging forward and biting another officer’s forearm while screaming profanities. She was subsequently secured in a restraint device.

Borgais was placed under arrest and transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation. The report stated that Borgais allegedly kicked a medical staff member in the stomach before attempting to bite them.

While at the hospital, a blood sample of Borgais was obtained, which allegedly revealed that she had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.397, which is nearly five times over the legal limit.

Borgais was later booked into Marion County Jail, where she remains in custody without bond. She is facing a slew of charges that include battery on a law enforcement officer or medical professional (three counts), aggravated assault on a medical professional, resisting an officer without violence, retail petit theft, and disorderly intoxication in a public place.

Jail records show that Borgais is scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30.
