A child was killed in an accident Wednesday evening in Hillsborough County.
John Rutland, 38, of Ruskin was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry southbound from 27th Street SE, attempting to travel across State Road 67, while Marbella Valencia-Bustos, 20, of Wimauma was driving a 2002 Chevy Utility Truck eastbound on SR-674 in the inside lane approaching 27th Street SE, according to a Florida Highway Patrol Accident report. Rutland entered the intersection and traveled into the path of Valencia-Bustos’ vehicle, colliding into the driver side of the Chevy, the report stated. Valencia-Bustos’ vehicle rotated and overturned.
Guadalupe Bustos-Benitez, 30, of Wimauma and five other children were in Valencia-Bustos’ vehicle at the time of the crash. All occupants in the Chevy Utility Truck were transported to Tampa General Hospital, where 3-year-old Jacob Bustos later died from his injuries.
Charges are pending.
