78-year-old man dies after car leaves roadway and hits construction sign

A 78-year-old Homosassa man died after his car left the roadway and hit a construction sign Tuesday afternoon in Citrus County.

Wilbert E. Thomas had been at the wheel of a 2016 Toyota Corolla at 3:12 p.m. on U.S. 19 when his car left the roadway, struck the construction sign and then landed in a ditch, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Thomas was transported to Seven Rivers Hospital where he died of his injuries.
