Marion County sheriff’s deputies are working to identify human remains found Sunday at the Ocala Boat Basin.
An off-duty Marion County sheriff’s detective was flagged down by several citizens at Ray Wayside Park (also known as the Ocala Boat Basin) located at 9564 NE 28th Lane in Silver Springs in reference to possible human remains being found in the water.
When the MCSO detective arrived at the scene, he confirmed the presence of human remains. The detective then secured the scene and notified the MCSO Major Crimes Unit. The remains have not been identified.
Marion County officials have closed Ray Wayside Park until further notice due to Major Crimes’ on-going investigation. MCSO’s Underwater Recovery Team is responding in an effort to recover any additional evidence.
