Wildwood RV park’s ambitious expansion plan blessed by Sumter County

Sumter County commissioners Tuesday night approved expansion of Wildwood RV Village and zoning for another campground in the Lake Panasoffkee area.

Wildwood RV Village plans to add 202 lots to accommodate customer demand.

Rezoning for expansion of the park, north of State Road 44 near Interstate 75, was approved earlier this year with plans to add 125 sites.

Now, the park instead wants to add 202 lots – a 60 percent increase – so additional county approval was required.

“The proposal is being made due to market demand,” said Karl Holley, development services director. “The proposal is within the limits of the comprehensive plan.”

Wildwood RV Village offers pull-through and back-in RV sites with 50 amp electrical service, as well as tent sites.

To free up space for the additional sites on 15 acres, a screen room and shed planned for each site were eliminated and site sizes were reduced.

Commissioner Doug Gilpin said plenty of open space is available for the expansion.
Wildwood RV Village offers pull-through and back-in RV sites with 50 amp electrical service. Daily rates are $59 on weekdays and $69 on weekends. Tent sites also are available for $22 a day.

Commissioners also approved rezoning five acres on County Road 470 in the Lake Panasoffkee area to Recreational Vehicle Planned Unit Development so property owner Terry Dickerson can develop a campground on the site.
