Man fleeing law enforcement dies after crash in Pasco County

A man fleeing law enforcement died as the result of a crash Saturday night in Pasco County.

Michael A. Blomberg, 54, of Land O Lakes, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of State 54 and being pursued by Pasco County sheriff’s deputies at 9:50 p.m. when he collided head-on with a 2007 Chevy pickup driven by 24-year-old Kirby Sober of Holiday, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The vehicles caught fire as a result of the collision.

Two vehicles were heavily damaged by flames Saturday night in Paso County.

Blomberg was taken to Trinity Hospital where he later died of injuries suffered in the crash.

Sober suffered serious injuries and was transported to Bayonet Pointe Regional Medical Center.

Blomberg was being pursued on a suspicion of kidnapping.
