Wet roads led to a hydroplaning accident Monday afternoon in Ocala culminating with the ejection of a driver. 

Ocala Fire Rescue was dispatched to the single-vehicle accident at 2:04 p.m. in the 1300 block of SE 25th Avenue.

The driver, ejected through the rear window when the vehicle hydroplaned, struck a tree. The driver, who was conscious and alert, was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center as a trauma alert, due to the type of accident. No other injuries were reported.

The driver of this vehicle was ejected through the rear window Monday afternoon in Ocala.

Hydroplaning occurs when a vehicle’s tires slide over a thin layer of water on top of the road, causing them to lose contact with the with the pavement. Tires in good condition are less likely to hydroplane. Checking tire pressure and tire tread, regularly, are good ways of avoiding incidents due to loss of grip on the road.

If you find yourself in a vehicle that is hydroplaning, Ocala Fire Rescue recommends that you take the following measures:

· Stay calm; don’t slam the breaks

· Ease your foot off the gas

· Steer in the direction you want to go
