A new eatery with a Tex-Mex twist has opened its doors in Ocala.
Locos Grill & Pub opened its doors this past Friday – just in time for the Saturday college bowl games – in its new location at 3105 E Silver Springs Blvd. It’s the first location in Florida for the restaurant chain, which has six others in Georgia, including two in Athens.
The restaurant, which boasts a cartoon moose as its mascot and uses the slogan “The Moose is Loose,” posted a Facebook video on Friday shortly after opening for business. The video included a quick tour of the facility, which features tables, booths, bar seating and several televisions for watching sporting events. Locos merchandise also is available for sale at the hostess stand.
Locos offers a varied menu featuring a mix of Tex-Mex and American cuisine. Appetizers include quesadillas, chips and salsa, nachos and fried pickles, among others. The rest of the menu includes sandwiches, burgers, wings, chicken tenders, salads and tacos. Click HERE to see the entire menu.
There are a variety of entrees that also are featured at the restaurant, including salmon, sirloin and a pork chop option.
The restaurant’s website bills its franchises as the “local spot for food, fun, beverages, and sports,” indicating that the franchise has been in business for more than 25 years.
The restaurant also offers a “Moose Money” loyalty card that offers points customers can accumulate during visits. Patrons with that card also are promised a $10 discount toward any menu item on their birthday.

Open Haus, which served chicken and gourmet shakes, suddenly shut its doors in August after a failed health inspection that included 15 violations. The restaurant, which was only open about six months, had billed itself as having “Probably the Best Chicken in Florida!” It was one of four restaurants, including Burger 21, that had tried to make a go of it at the Silver Springs Boulevard location and failed.
