Semi-truck driver killed in Alachua County in crash with FedEx van driven by Ocala man

A semi-truck driver was killed Monday afternoon in a collision in Alachua County with a FedEx delivery van driven by an Ocala man.

Kenneth A. Holder, 58, of Bronson, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 3:40 p.m. crash at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 27 and County Road 241. He had been driving a 2005 Mack semi hailing cement powder when he collided with a 2012 GMC FedEx delivery van driven by 24-year-old Andre A. Whitaker, of Ocala. Whitaker was attempting to turn left onto U.S. Hwy. 27 in the path of Holder’s semi when the collision occurred, the report says.

Holder attempted to take evasive action by steering to the right but the left side of his tractor-trailer struck the right front of the FedEx van. Holder’s semi then traveled onto the west grass shoulder of the roadway, where the tank trailer broke loose and came to rest on its left side, the report says.

Whitaker received minor injuries in the crash, which remains under investigation. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and charges are pending, the report says.
