Belleview man jailed after loaded gun falls onto floor at Bumper’s Pub

Shawn Eugene Pelc

A Belleview man was arrested on drug and weapons charges after reportedly dropping a loaded weapon on the floor of Bumper’s Pub.

Shawn Eugene Pelc, 29, of 6830 SE 107th St., was charged with carrying a concealed unlicensed firearm, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A patron of the bar, located at 10837 S. Hwy. 441, called law enforcement shortly after midnight Thursday to report that a man had dropped a weapon on the floor. He told a Belleview Police officer the man with the gun was wearing a dark blue cap and white polo shirt, according to the police report.

The officer found a man matching the description – later identified as Pelc – and asked him to step outside. The officer told Pelc someone said he dropped a weapon, but Pelc said he had no weapons on him. A pat-down search turned up a green leafy substance in a small plastic bag and some ammunition in Pelc’s pocket, but no firearm, the report said.

The officer asked Pelc if he had a concealed weapons permit due to him having the ammunition in his pocket. He said he had one but not on him. When asked if he had any idea what the green leafy substance was, Pelc said it wasn’t his. The officer then pulled a rectangular object out of Pelc’s pocket that turned out to be a scale. The green leafy substance tested positive for marijuana, according to the report.

The man who reported the incident wanted to remain anonymous. He told the officer that after Pelc dropped the weapon, his friend retrieved the weapon from him and placed it underneath the seat of his truck. Pelc’s friend at first said he didn’t know where the weapon was but later said it was underneath the seat of the vehicle. A brown and silver revolver was recovered, the report said.

Pelc was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released later Thursday on $4,000 bond.
