Homeless man caught prowling outside Belleview home

Anthony Blake Qualls

A homeless man was arrested early Thursday after being caught prowling around a Belleview home.

Anthony Blake Qualls, 34, was charged with loitering and prowling. He told the Belleview Police corporal who detained him that he was “seeking shelter from the wind,” even though the temperature at the time of the arrest was 68 degrees and there was no wind, according to the police report.

The residents of the home told another officer they saw Qualls looking through the glass window on their front door, shaking the handle and yelling, “Let me in,” the report said.

Qualls, who had a miniature screwdriver in his rear-left pants pocket, was asked if he knew anything about a burglary at a separate location. He said “no” and refused to answer any more questions. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he’ll be held until the end of his 30-day sentence on March 13.
