A Belleview woman was arrested Sunday night after she allegedly battered and strangled a family member while ordering her to get out of her house.
De-Andria M. Barefield, 52, was charged with simple domestic battery after the incident, which happened around 9:30 p.m. The victim told a Belleview Police officer that she and her children have been living at the residence for about three years with Barefield and her husband.
The victim told the officer she and Barefield were arguing over a computer printer when Barefield started packing up her belongings and saying the victim had to leave the residence. She said when she tried to take back her possessions, Barefield charged at her, placing her hands around her neck, leaving scratches on both sides. The victim said she didn’t touch Barefield during the incident, according to the police report.
Barefield told the officer that she and the victim were arguing when she placed her hands around the victim’s neck. She said she was defending herself. When asked if she had any marks on her, Barefield said she didn’t and that the victim didn’t touch her, the report said.
Barefield was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released Monday on her own recognizance. She’ll appear in Marion County Court on April 7.
