Belleview man arrested after hijacking city truck

Joshua Daniel Yarrington

A Belleview man is behind bars after allegedly forcing his way into a city truck and asking for a ride, then later fighting with the officer arresting him for trespassing.

Joshua Daniel Yarrington, 31, of 5414 SE Hwy. 484, was charged Tuesday morning with trespassing of an occupied conveyance, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting with violence, and possession of marijuana.

A Belleview Police officer responded to the area of SE 55th Avenue and SE Highway 484, where a city worker reported that a man, later identified as Yarrington, jumped into the passenger side of the city truck and told him to give him a ride. The driver ordered Yarrington out of the truck, and Yarrington got out but left a bag behind, according to the police report.

The officer asked the driver where the man was and he pointed down the street. The employee got into the patrol car and helped find and identify Yarrington. The officer approached Yarrington and asked him if he had anything on him, and he took a plastic container out of his right pants pocket, said it was marijuana and threw it onto the ground, the report said.

Yarrington started resisting when the officer told him he was being arrested, and while struggling, he threw his head back and intentionally struck the officer in the nose. Yarrington later commented he could have broken the officer’s nose if he wanted to, according to the report.

The officer continued wrestling with Yarrington until he was handcuffed and placed in the patrol car. The substance in the plastic container field tested positive for marijuana, the report said.

Yarrington was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he’s being held on $12,000 bond. He’s due to appear in Marion County Court on May 5.
