Daylight Savings Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1. While it’s essential to change the time on your clocks, another task should be to change the batteries in your smoke alarms.
Ocala Fire Rescue strongly encourages everyone to follow the International Fire Chiefs Association’s recommendations to change your smoke detector batteries annually. The easiest way to remember this is by making a habit of changing the detector’s batteries while you take care of another yearly must, like changing your clocks back to standard time.
“Whether your home is equipped with standard smoke detectors, which require batteries be changed annually, or newer models, with a 10-year sealed battery, ensuring that these alarms are in working order is a must. It is working smoke detectors that save lives,” said Ocala Fire Rescue Public Information Officer Ashley Lopez.
