Belleview man caught driving car with phony plate

Jose Alberto Pascual Velasquez

A Belleview man was arrested after being caught driving a vehicle with the wrong license tag attached to it.

A Belleview Police officer on patrol in the 5700 block of SE Abshier Boulevard conducted a records check on a gold Honda and was alerted the registered owner had an expired license and the registration was expired more than six months. The officer conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, Jose Alberto Pascual Velasquez, 30, of 11231 SE 40th Ave.

The officer asked Pascual Velasquez if he was the registered owner and if he had his driver’s license. Pascual Velasquez said his license was expired and he didn’t have the registration for the vehicle and only had the title. He said he knew the attached tag didn’t belong on the vehicle, according to the police report.

After confirming through a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) check that the vehicle was unregistered, the officer asked Pascual Velasquez why the vehicle was unregistered and he said he previously received a criminal ticket for attaching an unassigned tag to the vehicle and the judge gave him two months to get it registered, the report said.

Pascual Velasquez was charged with driving an unregistered motor vehicle and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released the next day on his own recognizance. He will appear in Marion County Court on Jan. 6, 2021.
