Ocklawaha artist’s exhibit opening in two locations in Ocala

The opening of an exhibit by an Ocklawaha artist is set for two locations in Ocala.

“Works,” by Ginny Avnaim, will begin Monday, Jan. 25 at 9 a.m. at the Recreation and Parks Administration building, located at 828 N.E. Eighth Ave., and the Eighth Avenue Adult Activity Center, located at 830 N.E. Eighth Ave. The free exhibit will be on display through March 18, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Due to COVID-19 precautionary measures there will be no opening reception.

Avnaim, of Ocklawaha, is a self-taught, mixed media textile artist who focuses on creating hand-embellished fabric designs. She has always been fascinated by hand sewing, enjoying the process and time invested in the craft.

After years of quilting, Avnaim developed her own application of fabric design. Throughout the process of experimenting with this new-found love for embellishing, she created pieces to fill her home, surrounding herself in her practice. She enjoys the energetic quality of these designs and the ability to have a positive impact on the viewer.
