Multiple drivers seriously injured in nine-vehicle crash on I-75 in Alachua County

Multiple drivers sustained serious injuries in a nine-vehicle crash that occurred on I-75 near mile marker 399 in Alachua County on Monday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report, nine vehicles were traveling northbound on I-75 at around 5 p.m. Those vehicles included a 2018 Dodge Ram pickup truck, 2005 Volvo tractor trailer, 2001 Honda Accord, 2017 Toyota Yaris, 2015 GMC Yukon, 2017 Jeep Wrangler, 2006 Dodge van, 2016 Chrysler 200, and 2020 Nissan Rogue.

The first vehicle, a 2018 Dodge Ram, was pulling a utility trailer. The FHP report indicated that the driver, a 32-year-old High Springs man, was traveling on the U.S. 441 exit ramp when traffic in front of the pickup truck suddenly slowed.

The pickup truck’s driver swerved to the left in an attempt to avoid striking the vehicle in front of him.

A 36-year-old man from Dallas, Texas was driving the second vehicle, a 2005 Volvo tractor trailer, and he also attempted to veer left. The tractor trailer struck the left side of the pickup truck.

After the initial collision between the pickup truck and tractor trailer, a series of collisions took place in which vehicles were struck, or the vehicles ended up striking another vehicle or the concrete barrier wall.

Once the tractor trailer came to a rest, it lost a large amount of diesel fuel and caught on fire.

The following drivers reported serious injuries:

  • A 32-year-old High Springs man (driver of the 2018 Dodge Ram pickup truck).
  • A 36-year-old Dallas, Texas man (driver of the 2005 Volvo tractor trailer).
  • A 35-year-old Fort White woman (driver of the 2001 Honda Accord).
  • A 51-year-old Gainesville man (driver of the 2017 Toyota Yaris).
  • A 32-year-old Williston woman (driver of the 2016 Chrysler 200).
