Ocala Symphony Orchestra to wrap up 2021-2022 season with “21st Century Anthology”

The Ocala Symphony Orchestra will be concluding its 2021-2022 season with a performance of contemporary works that were written within the past 10 years.

Conductor Matthew Wardell will lead the orchestra during its season finale, “21st Century Anthology,” on Saturday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, April 10 at 3 p.m. at the Reilly Arts Center (500 NE 9th Street in Ocala).

The concert will feature guest soloist Danielle VanTuinen, Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of Florida School of Music.

The program will include Missy Mazzoli’s tribute to the city of Detroit (“River Rouge Transfiguration”), Michael Daugherty’s piece in memory of his father (“Reflections on the Mississippi for Tuba and Orchestra”), and Mason Bates’ piece (“The Anthology of Fantastic Zoology”) which musically illustrates the creatures of Jorge Luis Borges’ 1957 “Book of Imaginary Beings.”

Tickets cost $15 to $40 for adults and $10 for students.
