22-year-old man dies after losing control of SUV, overturning in Ocala

A 22-year-old man from Indiana died early Monday morning after he lost control of his SUV on Marion Oaks Manor in Ocala.

At approximately 12:40 a.m., the man was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed on Marion Oaks Manor, near the intersection of SW 70th Avenue Road. According to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report, the man failed to navigate a curve in the road, and his SUV veered onto the west grass shoulder.

FHP stated that the front of the SUV struck a mailbox in the 800 block of Marion Oaks Manor. The man began to counter-steer in an attempt to regain control of the SUV, but this action caused the vehicle to rotate counter-clockwise towards the roadway in a southeasterly direction.

The SUV proceeded to overturn multiple times on the grass shoulder before it came to a final rest on its right side. While the vehicle was overturning, FHP stated that the man was partially ejected out of the passenger’s side front window, and he was pinned under the SUV. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the report.

Marion County Fire Rescue personnel arrived at the scene of the accident, and the driver was pronounced deceased. His name was not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.

During an investigation of the fatal crash, the southbound lanes of Marion Oaks Manor were temporarily closed.
