A pedestrian was struck and killed by a pickup truck in Ocala on Monday night.
At around 11:40 p.m., the pickup truck was traveling eastbound on State Road 40, near the intersection of SW 52nd Avenue, in the right lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.
FHP stated that the pedestrian, a 60-year-old man from Quincy, was standing or walking in the eastbound lane of State Road 40 in a “dark area” that was not illuminated by any lighting.
The driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck, identified in the report as a 20-year-old Ocala man, was unable to see the pedestrian in time to avoid a collision. The front section of the vehicle proceeded to strike the pedestrian.
After the accident, the pickup truck immediately pulled over and stopped. The driver was not injured.
The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The names of the driver and pedestrian were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
