Ocala firefighters rushed to a local residence on Saturday evening after a fire ignited in the kitchen.
At around 5:05 p.m., Ocala Fire Rescue received reports of a residential structure fire in the 1800 block of NE 24th Street. Multiple units were immediately dispatched to the home, according to OFR.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed a single-story wood-framed home with “smoke and flames showing.” The flames, which originated from a small kitchen appliance, had spread into the living room and porch area.
OFR stated that the home’s occupants had safely exited the property and were standing outside when firefighters arrived on scene.
Firefighters quickly attacked the flames on the porch and worked their way toward the kitchen door. They then proceeded to extinguish the fire in the kitchen before progressing toward the living room.
The fire was under control by 5:12 p.m. Firefighters then ventilated the home and checked for fire extension in the attic.
There were no injuries report.
The Prevention Division, Ocala Police Department, and Marion County Fire Rescue also responded to the home on Saturday evening.
In a social media post on Sunday morning, Ocala Fire Rescue stated that when a fire strikes, residents should “get out and stay out!” OFR added that this message is one that fire departments have been “preaching for years,” and it prevented burns last night when the fire ignited inside the northeast Ocala home.
