Two elderly Ocala residents were killed, and another person was injured, after a pickup truck collided with a turning car on U.S. Highway 441/S Pine Avenue in Marion County on Thursday evening.

The fatal crash occurred at around 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, near the intersection of U.S. 441 and SE 95th Street.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 72-year-old man (driver) and 71-year-old woman (passenger), both from Ocala, were traveling northbound in a car on U.S. 441 as they approached the SE 95th Street intersection.

A 20-year-old Fort McCoy man was also heading southbound on U.S. 441, near the same intersection, in a pickup truck.

FHP stated that the driver of the car attempted to make a left turn onto SE 95th Street, which brought the vehicle into the direct path of the pickup truck. As a result, the front of the truck crashed into the right side of the car.

Both occupants of the car were transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital where they were pronounced deceased.

The pickup truck’s driver and sole occupant was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the accident. His condition was listed as “stable” in the report.

The names of the individuals involved in the crash were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
