A 44-year-old Dunnellon man was killed after the dump truck he was driving veered off a local roadway and crashed into a concrete wall near the World Equestrian Center in northwest Ocala.
The fatal accident took place along NW Hwy 225A/NW 70th Avenue Road, just south of NW 79th Avenue Road in Ocala on Tuesday morning at around 9:10 a.m.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was driving a dump truck loaded with dirt northbound on the roadway.
For unknown reasons, the dump truck crossed over the center line, exited the roadway, entered the west grass shoulder, and struck a concrete barrier wall.
According to a press release issued by Marion County Fire Rescue, a 911 caller reported that the dump truck went off the roadway, through a retaining wall, and into a golf course near the intersection of the roadways.
Several citizens made their way to the scene before crews arrived to try and assist the driver. Upon arrival, firefighters used extrication tools to retrieve the driver.
The driver, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, was pronounced deceased at the scene by MCFR.
