A Dunnellon man was killed and a woman was seriously injured on Sunday after their car overturned and collided with a fence just west of the county line.
The fatal accident took place near the intersection of CR 40 and SE 115th Avenue in Levy County at 3:50 p.m. on Sunday, August 18. County Road 40 (CR 40) is a western extension of State Road 40 (SR 40).
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the man, 61, was driving a silver Mercedes east on CR 40 when he began attempting to negotiate a curve.
The sedan went off the right side of the roadway and entered the grass shoulder before overturning, colliding with a fence, and coming to a final rest on its roof.
The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. According to the FHP report, he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.
A passenger in the vehicle, a 65-year-old woman from Dunnellon, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
