A 22-year-old Ocala man has been indicted on several charges, including first-degree murder and attempted murder, in connection with a shooting at a Gainesville recreation center on Easter Sunday that claimed the life of a woman.
In August, Gainesville police arrested Kaniel Jeremy Paul Edwards and two other suspects – Gabriel Nehemiah Frazier and Jarrett Kendall Jones, Jr. – for their alleged involvement in the shooting death of 20-year-old Ontaria Baisden, who was killed on Sunday, April 20.

On that date, hundreds of people were attending an Easter egg hunt at the TB McPherson Center (1717 SE 15th Street in Gainesville) when a man wearing red shorts and a gray hoodie shot three people at the venue.
One of the victims, Basiden, was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, and she died three days later from her injuries. The two other victims sustained injuries that were non-life-threatening.
The Gainesville Police Department stated that an extensive investigation led detectives to identifying Edwards, Frazier, and Jones as the suspects in this case. The agency credited the Ocala Police Department and U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force with helping track down Edwards, Frazier, and Jones.
Investigators also determined that the Easter shooting incident was “gang-related.”
Last week, an Alachua County grand jury indicted Edwards on charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and unlawfully carrying a concealed firearm. The indictment alleges that Edwards carried and discharged a firearm on April 20, 2025, which resulted in the death of Baisden.
In addition, the indictment further alleges that Edwards attempted to kill “Gabriel Frazier or Jarrett Jones Jr., or any other individual associated with (them).”
No further details were provided by law enforcement regarding the shooting incident, and all documents related to the arrests of the three defendants in this case remain sealed.
Following his indictment, Edwards was ordered to remain in custody without bond while awaiting trial.
Alachua County Court records show that Frazier and Jones are both facing the following charges: second-degree murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
