A Silver Springs commercial truck driver was seriously injured and multiple teenagers sustained minor injuries after the vehicle crashed into the back of a school bus that was stopped to pick up students on Monday morning.

The accident occurred near the intersection of U.S. Highway 301 and NE 22nd Lane in Alachua County on Monday, March 9.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, an Alachua County school bus in the northbound lanes of U.S. Hwy 301 picking up students at around 7 a.m.

While the bus was stopped, a commercial vehicle being driven by a 27-year-old man from Silver Springs failed to stop, colliding with the rear of the bus, according to FHP.

After the crash, the truck driver lost control of the vehicle and overturned on U.S. Hwy 301. He was transported to UF Health Gainesville for his injuries.

His passenger, a 64-year-old Ocala man, was uninjured in the accident.

Four Gainesville children (a 10-year-old boy, two 14-year-old girls, and a 16-year-old girl) were also transported to the hospital. According to FHP, they sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the school bus, a 73-year-old woman from Gainesville, also sustained no injuries.

The report notes that all of the vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.

No additional details have been released and the crash is under investigation.
