Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to a crash involving an overturned semi-truck and two other vehicles on Interstate 75 early Friday morning after the truck crossed the median into oncoming traffic.
The incident occurred near mile marker 361 after a southbound semi-truck driver lost control of the vehicle. A list of the active calls for FHP shows that officers were alerted about the incident at approximately 11:42 p.m. and arrived at the scene about 40 minutes later at 12:22 a.m.
According to state troopers, the truck veered off the roadway, entered the center median, and struck the guardrail before overturning into the northbound lanes.
As the semi-truck entered the path of oncoming traffic, two vehicles traveling northbound were unable to avoid it and collided with the overturned truck.
Although FHP reported significant damage to the vehicles and the guardrail, no life-threatening injuries were sustained in the crash.
The accident resulted in a major roadblock during the early morning hours, with the left and center northbound lanes obstructed while specialized crews worked to upright the semi and clear debris from the interstate. Emergency repairs to the damaged center guardrail were also required.
As of 6 a.m. on Friday, cameras maintained by the Florida Department of Transportation show that the scene has been cleared of vehicles and that there is no real delay present.
While the primary wreckage was expected to be cleared by the morning commute, officials remind motorists that secondary delays may persist near the 361-mile marker as maintenance crews complete remaining repairs to the median infrastructure.
