Mary Julia Dann Allen ‘Da Mama,’ 93, entered into the arms of her Lord on June 1, 2018. Mary was born on September 26, 1924 in Ocoee, FL to her parents, George and Alma Dann. As a young woman, she married the love of her life, Howard Cleary Allen in Orlando, FL, and they had four lovely children, Donna, Marcia, Gordon, and Joanna. After raising her family, Mary returned to work for Liberty National Insurance Company in Orlando and later retired from the company. Mary was a kind and generous woman who, above all things, loved her family. She had a strong passion for life! Some of Mary’s favorite hobbies were golfing, bowling, creating poetry, growing vegetables, and solving Missing Vowel puzzles. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Ocala Elks #286 (including Ladies of the Elks), a former HOA board member for The Village, and was also a den mother to the Cub Scouts. In her younger years, she volunteered her time with the Girl Scouts.
Mary is survived by her children, Donna Witte, Marcia Allen, Gordon Allen, and Joanna Magee; sister, Barbara Dann Lemay; grandchildren, Arona Witte, Alexander Witte, Douglas Witte, Leah Witte, Dean Casey; great grandchildren, Kamden Asher, Jayce Asher, Dylan Asher, Jessica and Joseph Niven.
She will meet in Heaven her beloved husband of 58 years, Howard Allen; parents, George and Alma Dann; sisters, Freida Myrick, Lillian Brown; and brothers, Gene Dann and Ralph Dann.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 11:30am at First United Methodist Church, 1126 E Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL 34470. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of Marion County or to First United Methodist Church.
Mary’s family was the greatest joy in her life. Her family will miss her and her sweet, loving, beautiful smile and spirit. She will be remembered fondly all the days of our lives. May she rest in peace for eternity.
