Driver extricated from wreckage after semi overturns on Marion County roadway

A semi-truck overturned on County Road 315 on Wednesday afternoon after the driver ran off the roadway while trying to negotiate a curve.

Gary Lentz, 64, of Eustis, had to be extricated from the wreckage of his 2006 Freightliner semi after it overturned on County Road 315 in Marion County on Wednesday afternoon.

Gary Lentz, 64, of Eustis, was traveling south in a 2006 Freightliner semi when he approached a right curve near the intersection of NE 247th Lane. While traveling in the curve, the semi partially left the roadway into the west grassy shoulder. Lentz then overcorrected and the semi overturned onto the driver’s side and skidded across both lanes of the roadway, a Florida Highway Patrol report states, adding that it came to rest on the east grassy shoulder just south of the intersection.

A technical rescue crew from Marion County Fire Rescue was called to the scene of this semi crash Wednesday afternoon on County Road 315.

Lentz was “heavily entrapped” in the wreckage and had to be extricated by a technical rescue team from Marion County Fire Rescue. He was then transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center after initially being declared a “trauma alert” patient.

The crash was not alcohol-related and Lentz, who was wearing his seatbelt, was cited for careless driving.
