Donald Roger Thunberg

Donald Roger Thunberg

It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Roger Thunberg announces his passing on Monday, October 15, 2018, at the age of 93 years.

Donald was predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years Delores Josephine, father William Phillip Thunberg, mother Ida Clara Thunberg and brother, Kenneth G. Thunberg (Lieselotte). Donald will be lovingly remembered by his surviving six children, Robert (Lisa), Susan (Marty) Bauer, William (Millie), James (Barbara), Sharon, and Donald (Deanna). Donald will also be fondly remembered by his 18 grandchildren, and 12 great grand children.

Donald was a WWII Veteran in the 8Th Air Force flying in B17 missions during the European Theater. Upon discharge Donald married his high school sweetheart Delores and opened a grocery business in Chicago. As a butcher, he often referred to him self as a “meat cutter” and through the years all of their six children lent a helping hand. Donald was fortunate to retire at an early age, and with his wife, they relocated to Ocala, Florida.

Donald and Delores were of the first few founding members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church located at 5200 SW College Rd in Ocala. Their pride and joys were a swimming pool, countless tropical plants, and many family visits. With Donald’s health failing he moved to Mesa Arizona in 2014.

A Committal Service in memory of Donald will be held on Monday October 22 at 2:00 p.m., at the Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens, Mausoleum Chapel, 5050 SW 20th St. Ocala Fl 34474 with Rev. Ron Mueller officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
