Trace Adkins’ video director arrested after DUI-related crash in Ocala

Peter Albert Zavadil

An award-winning Nashville music video director with strong ties to country star Trace Adkins was arrested Saturday in Ocala after being videotaped urinating on the side of the road following a car crash.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was working an accident near State Road 200 and SW 137th Court when a bystander told him a second crash had happened nearby. The bystander reported seeing a gray Volkswagen Jetta, driven by 56-year-old Peter Albert Zavadil, rear-end a black Ford Fusion. The trooper reported that Zavadil was still behind the wheel of the Jetta and “seemed confused” when he arrived.

Longtime music video director/producer Peter Albert Zavadil, left, was in Afghanistan and Iraq with country music legend Trace Adkins, right, in November 2008.

When asked what had happened, Zavadil, who lives in Austin, Texas, said, “Nothing.” A witness told the trooper that when the crash occurred, Zavadil appeared to be asleep behind the wheel and she “had to knock on his window to wake him up. The driver of the Fusion involved in the crash then showed the trooper a video of Zavadil “exit his vehicle and urinate on the shoulder of the roadway” after the crash, a Florida Highway Patrol report says.

The trooper said that Zavadil had bloodshot, watery eyes and was confused about what happened. The trooper also reported smelling a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on Zavadil’s breath, the report says.

A witness to a Saturday car crash in Ocala told a Florida Highway Patrol trooper that 56-year-old Peter Albert Zavadil appeared to be asleep behind the wheel and she ‘had to knock on his window to wake him up.’

Zavadil failed five field sobriety tests and was transported to the Marion County Jail. He provided breath samples that revealed a blood alcohol content of .237 and .228, the report says.

Zavadil was booked into the jail at 2:22 a.m. Sunday and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and three counts of DUI property damage.

Since 1997, Zavadil has produced more than 165 music videos. He directed Adkins’ 2009 video to accompany his hit song “You’re Gonna Miss This,” which was in the running for 2009 Video of the Year at the CMT Country Music Award banquet. He also is known for directing and producing short dramas titled “Sunlight Dancing” (2010) and “Mixtape” (2012). And just last year he wrote and directed the late Glen Campbell’s “Adios” music video.

Country music video director/producer Peter Albert Zavadil spent time in Afghanistan and Iraq with American military units in 2008.

Zavadil’s resume also includes directing and/or producing music videos for a litany of other country stars and performers. Those include: Billy Ray Cyrus, Bill Engvall, Jeff Foxworthy, Charlie Daniels, Diamond Rio, Sara Evans, Keith Urban, Trick Pony, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, Sugarland, Kenny Rogers, Randy Travis, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lady Antebellum, Tammy Cochran, Darius Rucker, Jewel, Eric Church, Jo Dee Messina, Reba McEntire, The Black Keys, John Michael Montgomery, The Great Divide, Vince Gill, Steel Magnolia, A Thousand Horses, Pistol Annies and Rascal Flatts, to name a few.
