A 27-year-old Ocala man is being held without bond in the Marion County Jail after allegedly admitting to assaulting a 72-year-old man for talking about a family member.

Terrence Fredrick Jones, of 3378 SW 126th Lane in Ocala, was charged with battery and aggravated assault on a person 65 years of age or older after the incident, which happened late Sunday afternoon at Jones’ home.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that he was talking with a woman when Jones entered the room and struck him on the back of the head, causing him to fall from his chair. The victim said Jones then began using a closed fist while repeatedly striking him on the head and back of the neck.

The victim said he managed to get away with the help of the woman. At that point, Jones allegedly tried to run him over, but the woman pulled him out of the vehicle’s path, a sheriff’s office report states.

Jones left scene for about 10 minutes before returning, at which point the victim ran to a neighbor’s home. The victim said Jones told him he was going to kill him, the report says.
When asked by the deputy if he struck the victim, Jones said he did, adding he was tired of the victim talking about his family. Jones admitted to punching the victim multiple times with a closed fist, following him outside, knocking him to the ground and threatening to kill him.

The woman who witnessed the attack told the deputy she was afraid Jones was going to kill the victim, who suffered numerous cuts and bruises in the attack and complained of shoulder pain afterward.

Jones was taken without incident to jail, where he awaits a Jan. 15 date in Marion County Court.
