A house fire claimed the life of a family pet Wednesday in Ocala.
Ocala Fire Rescue crews en route to the burning home, located in the 100 block of NW 10th Avenue, reported seeing smoke and flames from a good distance away. And when they arrived on scene, the crews found a fully involved structure with flames burning through the front of the house, an Ocala Fire Rescue report says.
Engines 1 and 3, Tower 1, Rescue 3, Squad 7, Battalion Chief 22 and a safety officer responded to the blaze. They attacked the fire from the exterior and were able to prevent the flames from spreading to a neighboring home on the property, the report says.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Units from the Ocala Police Department and Marion County Fire Rescue also responded to the fire. The homeowner wasn’t injured but a dog died in the blaze.
