Two killed, four injured when SUV slams into sedan at busy Marion County intersection

A two-vehicle collision left two people dead and four others injured in Marion County early Monday afternoon.

The crash took place shortly after 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 200 and County Road 484 when a 2016 GMC Terrain driven by 81-year-old Franklin E. Kraus slammed into a 2012 black Lexus RX350 driven by 70-year-old William Tait, of Ocala.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Tait’s vehicle, which had the greenlight, was T-boned in the crash and overturned before coming to rest upright in the intersection with Kraus’ SUV nearby.

Kraus, of Ocala, was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Janet Elizabeth Tait, 70, of Ocala, was the front-seat passenger in the Lexus and was pronounced dead at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue, the FHP report says.

William Tait suffered serious injuries, as did his other three passengers, 40-year-old Laura Campbell, 6-year-old Isaac Campbell and 2-year-old Jacob Campbell, all of Durham, N.C. Both William Tait and Laura Campbell were transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center, while the two children were taken to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, the FHP report says.

The crash is still under investigation by the FHP Traffic Homicide Investigations Unit.
