Walter M. Mendus

Walter M. Mendus of Ocala Florida died on April 1, 2019 at the Legacy House in Ocala, Florida. Born in Butler Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Lewis and Nellie Mendus.

Mr. Mendus was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ocala, FL. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and a volunteer in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at the church. He earned a BS degree in electronics and was a Registered Professional Engineer. He served in the US Air Force during World War II where he designed and developed electronic training aids for use in the Air Force Radio and Communications Schools.

After his military service, he worked for and retired from Bechtel Power Corporation where he held the position of Chief Quality Engineer. In 2012 Mr. Mendus flew on the final Honor Flight from Ocala to Washington, D.C.

He is survived by two sisters, Jenny Natali and Blanche Kurnal, both of Pennsylvania; nieces, Karen Defiebaugh and Cynthia Potter and nephews, Kevin Mendus and Kreg Mendus.

Mass will be celebrated at Queen of Peace Catholic Church on Monday, April 8th, 2019 at 8:30am. Another Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Church in Annandale, Va with burial to take place at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Virginia, 22042.
