A Silver Springs man is in the Marion County Jail after being accused of battering a woman and holding her against her will.

Jared Wayne Cooper, 26, of SE 183rd Avenue Rd., is being held on $6,000 bond on charges of domestic battery and false imprisonment.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office report, a woman called 911 on Sunday to report that her friend had called her and said she was being held by Cooper at his home and that he was hitting her. When a deputy arrived on the scene, he found Cooper running through a patch of woods and he then detained him. Meanwhile, another deputy met with the victim at the front office of the mobile home park.

The deputies had previously responded to the address on Friday after being alerted by the victim’s employer that she had not shown up for work that day. The victim said Sunday that Cooper had kept her from going to work on Friday and grabbed her by the arm and slammed her to the ground inside the residence. She said she didn’t tell the deputies about this on Friday because she was terrified of Cooper, according to the report.

The victim had two black bruises visible on her left bicep that appeared to be from fingers. She had a large bruise on the back of her left arm she said was from Cooper, according to the report.

The victim told the deputies that Cooper had kept her from leaving the residence since Friday. She said he took her phone and keys and told her he would “show her something if she leaves.” She said she was able to get away and call for help while Cooper was talking to their landlord outside the residence. The landlord confirmed she spoke to Cooper at around 11:15 a.m., which was just before the 911 call was received, according to the report

Cooper denied all of the allegations when questioned by the deputies. He’ll answer to the charges in Marion County Court on April 30.
